Sjaal trompetdiertjes

Deze mooie sjaal is bedrukt met illustraties van het populairste trompetdiertje: de stentor! Dit ontwerp zal elke microbioloog bevallen die een nieuwe field accessory nodig heeft, of een origineel excuus wil om regeneratie bij protozoa te bespreken.

Fun fact: deze sjaal werd ontworpen met behulp van Athena Lin, een studente die onderzoek doet naar de regeneratieve vermogens van de stentor. “Als ik [de stentor] doormidden snijd, weten ze welke helft ontbreekt en weten ze dat ze die helft moeten vervangen. Dit is gek omdat het één cel is. Hoe weten ze wat ontbreekt? Hoe repareren ze zichzelf? We vermoeden dat er celdelingsprocessen spelen, omdat het lijkt op regeneratie. Ik heb een paar factoren gevonden die een rol kunnen spelen maar het einde van mijn proefschrift is nog niet in zicht!”
